Volunteers pitch in with Broughton Red Rose makeover

Members of Broughton Red Rose amateur rugby league club turned out with brushes and tins of paint instead of boots and a ball on Saturday.
They gave a fresh lick of paint to the Papcastle Road changing rooms of the club, which has appointed Matthew Woodcock, Dave Varty and Dale Semple as coaches.
Last year, the club missed out on winning a makeover for its pink away changing room, after representing the Border area in the online Paint For Change competition run by Dulux and The Sun.
It was up against nine other community projects from across Great Britain, but failed to receive enough of the 10,949 votes cast to be one of the four winners.
Broughton Red Rose is keen to hear from any businesses or individuals who would like to offer sponsorship support.
The club needs tracksuits, polo shirts and player strips.
It doesn’t have its own clubhouse so its only funding comes from sponsorship, donations and fund-raising.
The club wishes to thank the coaches for their efforts, Barry Cockton for the cherry picker, Steve’s Paints for the supply of paint, and Joe for his efforts over the last two years.
