Many thanks to all those who organised and contributed to a well-attended Remembrance Day at the Centre. A service was held in the main Memorial Hall on Sunday 9th, with 30 to 40 people present for prayers and readings. Nigel Williamson, manager of the Centre, read out the names that are listed on the War Memorial, of those who gave their lives in two World Wars and a two-minute silence was observed. More people gathered to watch poppy wreaths being laid outside on the War Memorial cross, by Ilene Forsyth for Arthuret Parish Council; Pat White and Callum Dawson representing the Community Centre; Jean Ostle for the Evergreens; Shirley Johnston for the Brownies and Bob Dodds representing the Labour Party. Wreaths were also laid for the Army, the Navy, the Army Cadets and the Cricket Club.
“Lest We Forget” - the Remembrance Day display in the main hall - generated a lot of interest. Thanks to Arthuret parish council and also to Ivor Gray, John Monaghan and Gordon Routledge for their unique and much appreciated contributions. We hope this will become a regular fixture each year and we’re keen to add to it, if this has jogged memories or sent you looking through old family photos.
Glyn Williams of the Angling Development Board is trying to establish whether there’s enough interest to run a two-day Level one Coaching Course for Fly Fishers in the New Year. If you’re interested, please contact the Centre for more details.
