Let’s all line dance in memory of our pal John

A LONGTOWN couple are holding a line dancing fundraiser today in memory of their friend who died of prostate cancer earlier this year.
Line dance teachers Ann and Alex Robb have organised the event at Houghton Village Hall.
All money raised will be donated to Prostate Cancer Research UK in memory of their friend John White, an avid line dancer.
The couple met John and his wife Lin six years ago on a line-dance holiday in Malta.
They became good friends and Ann and Alex decided to raise money and the profile of the disease following John’s death in March.
The couples took holidays together and even shared a once-in-a-lifetime trip to country music mecca, Graceland, in 2003.
John, originally from London, moved from Cumbria to Bournemouth two years ago when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, to be near his family. His wife was heading to Cumbria for the fundraiser.
Ann said: “There is so much awareness of breast cancer but I think prostate cancer gets forgotten about.
“I don’t think you realise how common it is until someone you know gets it.
“John would have loved this event – it is a fitting tribute and we are hoping for as many people as possible to come along.”
A dance workshop will be held from 2.30pm to 5.30pm with a social dance from 7.30pm to midnight.
An all-day ticket costs £6, afternoon tickets are priced at £3 and an evening ticket costs £4.
