WEST LAKES ACADEMY, EGREMONT
IT’S ALL change at West Lakes Academy. A new director of sixth form, Andy Williamson, has been appointed and new courses are on offer. As well as a full range of A-level subjects such as English, History, Maths and Further Maths, Psychology and the sciences, etc, a number of vocational courses are also on offer; BTEC health and social care, BTEC ICT and BTEC performing arts to mention but three.

ST Bees School offers a varied and exciting sixth form curriculum and has an excellent record of success at A-level and entry to Higher Education including Oxbridge. Workington Sixth Form Centre
WORKINGTON Sixth Form Centre is based on a purpose-built site. We are the Sixth Form for Southfield Technology College and Stainburn School and Science College and one of a very few collaborative Sixth Forms in the country.

STANDING UP FOR YOUNG PEOPLE’S RIGHTS
TEENAGERS are often accused of hanging around outside supermarkets and causing trouble but a lot of the time it is because they are either banned or glared at in parks. A NORMAL week would see me in the classroom at Nelson Thomlinson School in Wigton but this week I have taken time out from school to do work experience at the Times and Star newspaper, Workington.THESE last few months have been crazy, 2010 seems to have only just begun, but in that time I’ve seen a story I’ve written turned into a proper book – it’s gone from words on a computer to paper and ink.

Engineers of future
ENGINEERS of the future were given a financial boost recently to help them kick-start their careers. The REACT Foundation promised over £5,000 to West Cumbrian teenagers who pledge to study an engineering, maths or science-related subject at sixth form and university.
